Nancy Pelosi becomes a Saint...

Last month on a Saturday afternoon in Washington, D. C., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's aide visited the Cardinal of the Catholic cathedral.

He told the Cardinal that Nancy Pelosi would be attending the next day's sermon, and he asked if the Cardinal would kindly point out Pelosi to the congregation and say a few words that would include calling Pelosi a saint.

The Cardinal replied, "No. I don't really like the woman, and there are issues of conflict with the Catholic Church over certain of Pelosi's views." Pelosi's aide then said, "Look. I'll write a check here and now for a donation of $100,000 to your church if you'll just tell the congregation you see Pelosi as a saint."

The Cardinal thought about it and said, "Well, the church can use the money, so I'll work your request into tomorrow's sermon." As Pelosi's aide promised, House Speaker Pelosi appeared for the Sunday sermon and seated herself prominently at the edge of the main aisle.

And, during the sermon, as promised, the Cardinal pointed out that House Speaker Pelosi was present.

Then the Cardinal went on to explain to the congregation -- "While Speaker Pelosi's presence is probably an honor to some, she is not my favorite person. Some of her views are contrary to those of the church, and she tends to flip-flop on many other views. Nancy Pelosi is a petty, self-absorbed hypocrite, a thumb sucker, and a nit-wit. Nancy Pelosi is also a serial liar, a cheat, and a thief.

Nancy Pelosi is the worst example of a Catholic I have ever personally witnessed. She married for money and is using it to lie to the American people. She also has a reputation for shirking her Representative obligations both in Washington , and in California . She simply is not to be trusted."

The Cardinal completed his view of Pelosi with, "But, when compared to Senators Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, and John Kerry, House Speaker Pelosi is a saint."

Larry: Not funny, but you would expect that from me.

Denise: Your comment is quite disturbing. Are you advocating the death of the Speaker of the House? I hope Homeland Security isn't reading AR. It is a federal offense to threaten an elected official. People like you are a serious threat to the stabilty of this country.

Larry - very good, gave me a great chuckle. I would think that Harry Reid, though, would be the saint compared to Pelosi.

Scott - lighten up, there has been worse stated and wished for here about Bush and Cheney.

I was starting to wonder how, as a man of the cloth, he could possibly work in the saint.  There wasn't nearly enough room to go into the people in the bible who, despite serious screw-ups or even long-term evil practices were honored. (Moses, Samson, David, Rahab, Paul, Peter, etc.)  Only someone who's extremely partisan or completely lacking a sense of humor could fail to see it was clever and funny.  Thanks for the chuckle!

Personally I don't believe in saints, nor even religions for that matter. Religions are what's wrong with the world.

Larry ~ Wow, is this really true, I haven't googled it... My my my, how could you even work for a woman and request such a hideous thing... She is a greedy, manipulative, liar and the worst choice for speaker of the house.

I would have like it better if (as Hugh mentions above) I didn't know that sainthood is bestowed after death.  But still kinda funny.

Jim -yep, the millions killed and imprisoned by Stalin were caused by religion, the killing fields of Cambodia were caused by religion, Tieneman square was caused by religion. The crash of the housing market was caused by religion. Personally, I don't care whether you believe in saints or religion. But I do know your comment about religions being what's wrong with the world smacks of either wanton ignorance or just  plain bigotry.

Mike: You certainly have highlighted the atrocities of man in recent times. There are many examples of mass murder in the name of quelling dissent and opposition. You could toss in the ethnic killings in Rwanda, as well. There are plenty of examples, however, where man has done horrific things in the name of religion. The Crusades, the Taliban, Sharia law in a number of Islamic countries, The Inqusition, the Baltics in the 1990's, etc.

Jim is right in that a good portion of turmoil in the world is caused by religion.

Scott - you and Jim are making religion a scapegoat. It is the decisions of individuals, and yes, those individuals may have been able to sway the masses in some cases. It is/was the interpretor of the message, not the message that is to blame. I could use the same lack of logic to make the broad sweeping statement that Democrats are the cause of all the problems in the U.S. today. It is just as much bullsh*t as Jim's and your statements.

Mike: Not at all the same. Jim just made a point and I can see his side, just as I can see what you said in your post. I could say the the republicans are the blame for everything, which is not the case. If you choose not to see that some of the problems that are occuring in the world are not caused by religion, then there is nothing more to say, is there?
