I'm using my husband's previous post to remind the community of the grand opening of the Occoquan VA Farmer's Market on Saturday, April 18 2009.  The weather forecast (at the moment) is for sunny skies.  We'll see you there, Karen

There is nothing tastier than "just picked" produce.  Now you will have the opportunity to buy it in the historic Town of Occoquan along the shores of the Occoquan River.

Yes, there are farmer's markets located throughout the area, but none of them are set in a location as interesting as Occoquan with its' shops, restaurants and river scenery.  It doesn't get any better than that unless you consider the fact that the purchase of locally grown produce helps stimulate the local economy

The market located at the eastern of Mill Street will start selling locally grown produce on Saturday, 4/18/2009.  It will be open from 8:00 AM to 12 Noon every Saturday during the summer months and into the early fall harvest season.

Many of us who live along and understand the impact of the Occoquan River on our community have become involved in a relatively new organization named Occoquan River Communities (ORC).  It's purpose is to encourage development of the area for both commercial and recreational opportunities in a manner that enhances and respects the Occoquan River.  The ORC coordinates and publicizes events by venues along the shores of the river.

Additionally, the ORC hosts the Occoquan River Festival which is a day filled with a wide array of activities to please any taste (including food tastes) throughout the communities along the Occoquan.  See more information at Occoquan River Communities

Both the Farmer's Market and the Town of Occoquan are easy to find. They are on the Prince William County side of the Occoquan River off Route 123.

Use of the Town of Occoquan Seal was approved by E. Porta, Mayor of Occoquan, VA
