KayakingI read and see so much with Realtors and others in life of redefining themselves. Going through an identity crisis and emerging as something else. Divorced women with children making a go of it in real estate. Adding a new business focus complementing real estate. Trying different blogging formats. Living life to the fullest at mid life. Picking up the pieces years after a broken relationship and thriving the second time around. Discovering who we are, what we want to be when we grow up is invigorating. It reminds us to

Make Your Own Kind of Music Even If Nobody Else Sings Along.

I have NEVER had a problem with this myself.

For those who know me or read me, can you tell? LOL. But listening very carefully to others I hear hesistancy inside themselves. They have doubts that the inner voice in them SCREAMING at them that they have a right to pay attention to it. They are looking for someone's permission to go that new direction. To be the NEW YOU. OK, from someone who only has wanted to BE HIMSELF his whole life, today is YOUR day. You have my permission to be this new you that you have been thinking about. What would I whisper in your ear as I grabbed you with a comforting hug and let you know you are ok just as you are? GO FOR IT. Life is so much to be lived and not sat on the fence. Besides those pointed pickets are pretty irritating aren't they on the old backside?

I have seen so many people have compartmentalized lifes with a door open, then closed, then another one opened again. Some people have three marriages in a life where others have a 62 year wedding anniversary. Do not put judgments on it all. Live the life that you so richly deserve. If it is time to make a change in business or in life, what were those words I whispered to you again? GO FOR IT!!

And listening to this song, don't worry about what anyone says in what direction you are taking either. It is your music inside you that you are playing. You are singing to it and THAT is all that matters!! To thine own self be true.

Gary, we need to march or dance to our own drummer. I prefer to keep the audience to am stark few.

Dang that's an old video.  I love that song & Mama Cass!  We have to pave our own way & make our own mistakes along the way.

This is yet another great post and a great reminder. I wish I had the guts to "make my own kind of music" more often. Seems fear gets in the way of things, but hopefully that will change soon...

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the permission!

Mama Cass what a talent, she left us far too early. BTW, I went to one of the tapings of the old Hollywood Palace show back in the day. I remember Milton Berle (sp?) was the emcee for that one.

Gary:  It may be very easy for you to give someone else permission to be themselves... but there are those "out there" who have actually forgotten... or perhaps never known... just what "being themselves" is like.  Just like Susan Boyle who said she had never been kissed (a claim she later recanted)... there are many who cannot remember the last time they had a kiss... or even a long, gentle and caring hug.  Sometimes it is not so easy to let go of the past.  It appears that your life has been most fortunate if you cannot remember feeling like this.  Take care...

By the way... I always loved Mama Cass... such a wonderful voice.  It was so sad when she passed away.  Were you aware that Mama Cass has a sister... and one with an equally thrilling voice ?  Yes.  Her name is Leah Kunkel.  The main place I know her from is that she used to sing with James Taylor... and moreso with James' brother Livingston Taylor.  If you like... I suggest you take a listen to a Livingston Taylor song entitled "Loving Arms."  That's Leah Kunkel singing with him.  It is beautiful... and a real tear-jerker.  Take care...

Gary - I had forgotten about Mama Cass and how much I enjoy her songs and her singing.  That one should say something to us all!

Thanks, Gary, I enjoyed that.  Life is a growth process, an evolution of sorts and we never end up exactly like we started.

Thanks Gary, Great post.  Thanks for the comments on my last one too.  Natural Childbirth is still one of my passions, please pass the info on to anyone you know who can use it.  I learned so much from that practice that I now use in this one....funny how life goes, we are often being prepared for the next thing and don't even know it, so long as we follow our passions goes that way, really looks like you do too.

Hi Gary....not everyone has the greatest level of self-confidence, unfortunately. Think about the mixed messages blasting us every day....from all sides. Those that are blessed with much and give back without hesitation are true heroes.
