Since you are limited to only 140 characters, posting long links on Twitter is out of the question, right?

Wrong!  With Bit.ly, a free service, you can copy and paste any length URL from your browser and transform it into a short link.

The best part about Bit.ly is that it also gives you reports on all the URL's you've shortened there, showing exactly how many people clicked on a particular link.   That is how I discovered that ‘Celebrity Real Estate' is very much in demand.  Divorce came in a distant second.  Go figure!

Tweet you at the Top!

I love Bit.ly and the statistics it provides me with on all the links I submit to it and then post to Twitter.

Try it; you'll love it too!

Mirela,

I haven't been on Twitter yet and I just the other day read an article that said people are leaving Twitter in droves. Maybe I was right not to. I can't see the point.

Terry:  They are leaving because they can't figure out how Twitter works.  Twitter is not for the faint ofheart.  The highly technical people seem to be much more prevalent on Twitter, which is exactly why I have garnered so much valuable SEO and Marketing info on Twitter.

If you read all my Twitter blogs, you too can benefit from using Twitter.  Each one of my Twitter blogs is bite sized, so you can easily assimilate each morsel.  When you finish digesting all the information I will give you on a silver platter, you too will say:

YUM, YUM TWITTER!

Great information and thanks for sharing it with those of us that are a bit less techy...but going for it.

Mirela:  I just have no clue why people make such a big deal about Twitter.  But... like other things in life that I do not agree with... if it makes them (and you) happy... cool.  It is just not for me.  It sounds much too adolescent.  Take care...

@ Terry:  I fully agree with you.  I don't see the point, either.  What do I care what someone did today... what they had for lunch, or what kind of poddy paper they use.  Like I said, and you said, I just cannot see the point.  Life does not "fit" into 140 characters.  Life is lived with personal face-to-face relationships.  I believe in quality, not mindless quantity.  Take care... don't give in.

Interesting conversation.  Twitter has reached the mass market.  If you take the time to connect with people and start relevant conversations Twitter is a valuable resource.  I think that it's here to stay, but I do prefer Facebook.

What I meant to comment on is that I usually use TinyUrl.  I tried bitly once from Tweet Deck and it didn't work.  Will have to try it now that I know it has tracking capabilities.

Kate:  Facebook is the quintessential social site.  I use it and enjoy it also, but for information and up to the minute news Twitter is The One and Only!

TinyUrl is also excellent.  Both of them are at the top of the URL shortening field.

Kate:  Twitter is really not a conversation, but an information stream.  Yes, there are conversations within the stream, but the bulk of it is made up of information.  The more interesting people you follow, the more abundant that information stream.  Currently I am following close to a thousand people and I am followed by about the same number.

Mirela,

Thanks I sometimes do get frustrated with only 140 characters.   I wouldn't worry about trying to convert those that want to be left behind either.

Thanks again.

Mireal, I use Tweetdeck, which has a url shortner. Another good one is www.urlzen.com (a friend of mine)

Thanks for the tip

Mirela, this sounds like tinyurl - it's the one I've used. Is this one any different?
