Columbus Ga, Fort Benning NEWS: The Consolidated Government's Finance Department has concluded their study of the Landfill Accounts. Now the Finance Department is asking to make accounting adjustments to write off uncollectable debts from past Landfill customers. Nearly 1.3 million dollars of bad debts are being written off from the period of 1997 through 2004. It gets worse, they also want to write off debts in the amount of nearly $800,000.00 accrued in the form of Landfill fees and tickets. These debts are also deemed uncollectable since a four year statute of limitations has run out. Total adjustments amount to 2 million dollars and change. Why didn't somebody think of turning it over to collection agencies? Thank you Finance Department for sleeping on the job during the late 90's and through the first part of the millenium. Feel free to stick the taxpayers with any new costs that you can dream up. Sorry to disturb your nap.
