IT WAS A BUSY DAY IN ORILLIA SATURDAY!

Beautiful and quaint City of Orillia nicknamed the Sunshine City is 125 km from downtown Toronto.  It is bordered by picturesque Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching and is a couple of miles from the Casino Rama.

Saturday June 13th was a busy day for this City of 30,000+. First there was the launching of the Firefighters Relief Poker Run.  Early bird registration cost $375.00 and then registration was $475.00.  These cigar/cigarette (gas guzzling) boats now were set to run at 55 mph as opposed to the 90 -150 mph they used to run at in past years.  This was a great charity event! http://www.performanceboatclub.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=57&Itemid=1

While the Poker Run was underway, the City recognized the Grand Opening of Giant Tiger a discount department store.  http://www.gianttiger.com/en/?storefinder=1&province=ON 5000 came out to the festivities there was a giant stuffed tiger playing with the kids, man on stilts doing tricks and lunch was offered at $1.00 for a hot dog and a pop (soda), now that was a bargain, with profits donated to charity.

Throughout all of this, the Port of Orillia was hosting its annual in-water boat show.  There were all sorts of Vendors offering everything from life jackets, and lines to boating wear and decor items.  Of course there were boats, from small, medium, large and a few extra large! http://www.orilliapacket.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1609982

The temperature was one of those days where it didn't feel cool or hot.  It felt just right.  With the sun shining, the water glistening, the music playing, it was just a perfect day to stroll the boardwalk and be thankful for the day!

Back home our fine feathered friends were just waiting on the deck for us.  Well, guess they weren't waiting for us, just wanted us to give them some corn...which of course we did!

Enjoy yours

Al and Peggy - Thanks for the update and photos. I participated in the Orillia boat show many years ago when I worked for Paris Marine in Peterborough and it was a lot of fun.

What year were you at the Orillia boat show John?  We bought a boat from the show one year.  We are going to slip over to see you and get our sunset fix.

It looks like you had a great weekend.  I LOVE Giant Tiger.  It's my favourite place to visit when I go to see my in-laws in Parry Sound.  Let me know when you are going to be in Oakville.
