Recommended Reading for Real Estate Professionals

By
Education & Training

I love reading, and thought it would be great to share with one another some of the books that have been beneficial to our careers. Please add on your suggestions!

My recommendations:

  • High Trust Selling by Todd Duncan
  • The Starbucks Experience by Joseph Michelli
  • Truth or Delusion? by Dr. Ivan Misner (great book on networking)
  • Little Gold Book of Yes! Attitude by Jeffrey Gitomer
  • Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins
  • The Art of Possibility by Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander

I'll can add a lot more, but I this is enough to get started.

I have another one to add.. I can't believe I forgot to put it on the original list!

Getting Things Done by David Allen

It's a fantastic book on productivity. My entire life is set up with this system, and I can think, work, and sleep much easier now after implementing it.

Here's another one to keep for reference purposes: How to Say It by Rosalie Maggio.

This is helpful when writing letters, notes, etc.

Hi Cheryl,

Awaken the Giant Within is a fantastic read.  The book is separated into 4 separate parts. Part one is "Unleash Your Power" where Tony talks about the basics of NLP (neurolingustic programming) and how much of an impact the words we use have on our behavior and beliefs. The assignment that made quite an impact on me was where you write down your empowering beliefs and your disempowering beliefs. I think that part is around chapter 4 or 5.

Anyway, I really recommend it. It's not hard to get into once you begin it. In fact, I found it hard to put down as I got excited thinking about creating massive changes.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

I just finished The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. It is definitely one of my favorite books. Very inspirational, written towards a Christian audience, although I think anyone would gain great benefit from it.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is a great book.

So is How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.

here's another one:

"The Question Behind the Question"

This gets to the root of what people are really asking and how to deal with it.  Joe Stumpf (founder of By Referral Only) uses this technique in what he calls the ultimate scenario. When you ask someone: What is important to you about getting the most $ for your home? You can take that question seven layers deep and discover...that what is important to them about getting the most money for their home is....that they want to provide a better life for their kids. And they will only be able to do that if they can afford to pay for college etc.

So that is the real truth. It's not that they are just greedy and want the most for their home.
Once you get to the root of their issure...you can serve them more efficiently and effectively.

And then if what they care about is funding their kids' college education, inform your mortgage partner and he or she can put them into a mortgage plan that takes that into consideration!

Thanks for this!  I loved Truth or Delusion.  It was a quick read.  I also really liked all of the Jeffrey Gitomer books I read.  The "Little Red...." books were good.. Getting Things Done was great too!  I also love Tuesdays With Morrie and The Millionaire Next Door.  All time classics that are not necessarily business success but life success.  Thanks again everyone for sharing!
