Thanks Jason, great job. Now tell me why you are not doing the SVCA website for us?

Hi Marie,

Thanks for your comments. I am starting to really get in to blogs and websites, but I do use software already made that I can just refine on my own. I saw that you were looking for help and if Steve knows how to explain it to me, I can try to do it. Should I call Steve?

Disappointed Resident

Keeping the park drug-free is just the beginning.  This park was built to provide a safe place for our families and children to play and the park has fallen grossly short of the mark. Lamar Park continues to be a safe-haven for our homeless who defecate, loiter nearly 24 hours a day at the gazebo and frighten families away. The park is a hot bed of gang activity and drug related crimes.  I have never, nor will  allow any member of my family there.  This is terribly disconcerting to me. The adjacent property had a home burned by San Miguel Fire Department years ago and NOTHING has come of the property except stolen cars, weeds and trash.  S.V. Development Corp.  did NOTHING to improve it. I think drug free is an ambitious goal, but WE can do better by demanding that our County Supervisor Dianne Jacob take an active role in advocating for the hard-working families here by working to ensure that we are treated with the same level of respect and dignity as that of more affluent neighborhoods.

I have been working with Code Compliance for more than 4 years to get S.V. Development Corp. to revitalize the property adjacent to Lamar Park and to also demolish the property they own on Valencia Street.  Without the public speaking out and making it known that we expect our elected officials to step up and do right by the citizens who vote for them, then we will continue to be the dumping ground for the City of San Diego.  I would love to have additional support advocating for the demolition of the abandoned property on Valencia Street, cleaning up the property adjacent to Lamar Park and providing social services to the homeless along with legal enforcement of loitering laws and warrent/sex crime sweeps.  Please email County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, notify the local media, file complaints with code compliance and law enforcement agencies in earnest so we can take back  and take pride in our little piece of San Diego.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. We have been meeting with Dianne Jacob about this and other issues via the Spring Valley Citizens Association. (www.SpringValleyCa.0rg or 619 670-8004) One of our members has just been appointed to her board and we would love to have you attend one of our community meetings to have your support for the transformation of the park. I have been a Spring Valley resident all my life and I once knew a family member of the home the fire department burned down and I thought it could have been a great historical home to possibly incorporate in to the park. I too am upset that they did that and the area should be cleaned up to at the very least have more parking for people who go to the park. I am actually brave enough to go to the park with my family, but as you know, we do feel uneasy with the loiters there and I wish my wife could use the park with our daughter, but she is uncomfortable to go by herself. The next closest park we have to go to Eucalyptus Park in La Mesa if we want to have an relaxing time without worrying about crime. My home happens to look over the park and I see the loiters every morning and the Sheriff at night patrolling the park with their search light. We must not give in to the current condition and with your help we can all take "baby steps" of positively improving the condition of the park to a condition that you would feel comfortable with your family. Please visit our website and make time to come by the Lamar Park event. Thank you! Jason Kardos

Two suggestions for the using the adjacent area would be to build a skateboard park and/or an off leash dog park!!

Hello, I think this event will hopefully reintroduce the surrounding neighbors to the park. I had a chance to go to the Park with Jose Ortiz -Lemon Grove Sheriff's Dept and saw no one using the park but 4 or 5 people loitering under the gazebo. I think this is a much needed event.
