The Door is Open to Mexico - Medical Care

Medical care and insurance are important topics to all of us.  The rising cost of insurance and medical care is creating major problems for US citizens.  Mexico is an option.  Many citizens living in the US are traveling to Mexico for medical and dental care and procedures.  Naturally, a big question is, "What is the quality and affordability of medical care in Mexico?"

  1. This may be a surprise to some of you, but the quality of medical care is very good throughout the entire country.  Some physicians and hospitals are rated as exceptional.  Some of the reasons are:
  2. Almost all of the physicians and dentists have received much of their medical education in the United States or Europe.
  3. Many US physicians have moved to Mexico because of the exorbitant cost of medical malpractice insurance in the US and the constant threat of litigation.
  4. Mexico is not as hampered by the regulations and bureaucracy of the US government.

I visited a former professor from a major US medical school who is now in private practice in Mexico.  He rated the care as excellent and said that he was far advanced in the procedures that he could legally use compared to the US. I have been with friends who wanted to check with a doctor in the middle of the night for a child's fever -- no problem and when I saw the prescription -- it was computer generated and had much more information about the problem, the medicine, treatment, cautions and it was legible.  I also visited a little girl on welfare in a private room recovering from an amputation.  I could go on and on -- but I am a believer in the excellent medical care.

And the medical care is affordable -- it is one fourth to one half of the cost of similar care in the US and sometimes less.  I recently paid $25 for a visit to a private physician and he really listened to me and spent lots of time with me.  I had stitches from the US removed and received several prescriptions.

Most US drugs are available in Mexico or a similar product can be found. Most of them cost 25% to 50% compared to the same drug in the US.

If you don't have insurance -- consider Mexico and you might also consider living there.

Mexico --  Isn't it about time you learned more about the opportunities for YOU?

Interesting commentary. I haven't heard anything good about medical care in Mexico. Just inexpensive medications.  It will be something to see how the health care reform goes here and the effect it may have in Mexico as a result.

Leslie,  Great comment.  Usually there is very little discussion on the quality of health care in Mexico.  I also wonder if health care reform in the US will have any impact on Mexico.  My own opinion is that with the huge number of boomers looking at Mexico, we will see a large emphasis on medical care with the intent of getting more of their business.  I know that several prominent and wealthy Mexican businessmen are getting involved with hospitals and hospices.  I am looking for great things to develop from this.

I know lots of people who go to Mexico for health care -- general checkups, dental, vision, surgery, etc. Haven't heard of anyone having any problems. I also know a few people who go to Canada for their health care because even visitors to the country get it free. Free is better than some of the deductibles here in the U.S.

Gary...looked up your space here in the Rain,.how did I miss it before. What you are presenting here is information that thinking persons can look into and decide if it is for them / theirs. Have to tell you that both of us are still laughing over your cat's demands--none of our four would ever have considered sharing anything with us, other than the right to feed, water, provide clean letter, & sitting / sleeping opportunities for them.8 Happy catnip tea to you!

Jim,  Thanks for reading and the comment.  That is interesting about Canada -- I didn't know that.

Judi,  Thank you for the comment.  I thought it was good information that is not commonly known.

Barb & Sal,  My cat keeps me going -- never a dull moment.  I'm glad you liked the information.  And, I still have to try that catnip tea -- I wonder what my cat will think of it.

I once had a fellow say to me "Jose, you know that Mexico is a Third World country!".

Mexico is thousands of years old.  While the divide between the rich and the poor is great, many people would be surprised by the quality of life there.  When I first started selling Real Estate to the Hispanic community 15 years ago, many bankers laughed when I explained why my clients were keeping cash at home.  I told them it was due to their lack of trust for banks.

Now, when I see hundreds of people lining up at banks whose doors have been closed demanding their money and peoples life savings cut if half, well, I don't have to explain it any more.

Like I always say, here in the US We Live to Work, in Mexico We Work to Live!!

Major dental.... go to Mexico. Just outside Yuma, across the border...... My Mom (78)had to have her whole mouth "redone". Her bridges were over 50 years old! The quote from her dentist in So. NV was close to $18,000.00. We went to Mexico and it was $4,000.00. My Mom loves her new teeth..... they are a perfect fit, no problems, and they look FANTASTIC!  She could not be any happier!
