Labor Day weekend will be even busier this year in Murphy, North Carolina with the 9th annual Heritage Walk and Festival taking place on Saturday, September 5. The festival celebrates the history, music, arts and crafts and cultural heritage of Cherokee County.
Events wil be taking place all over town. In Konehete Park, you'll, be treated to a variety of musicians on stage from 10 AM to 4 PM. The festival promises to feature everything from banjos to bagpipes to bluegrass.
Downtown you'll find historical walking tours with tales of the past at 10 and 11 AM and a live performance by the heritage Cloggers at 10:30. Our rich Cherokee Indian cultural legacy will be the topic of a special resentation at 1PM at the Henn Theatre downtown. Dr. Ann Rogers, professor of Anthropology at Western Carolina University will introduce us to the ceremonies, dances and story telling that made up Cherokee ceremonial practices in the 1800s.
There's also an antique tractor show with over 50 vintage tractors on display all day at Konahete Park, an Arts and Crafts Show with over 30 local vendors displaying local folk arts and, last but not least, loads of food vendors offering ribs, burgers, funnel cakes, ice cream and other goodies.
The Valley River Humane Society will have pets to adopt at the park, the Cedar Valley Farmers Market will be open downtown and local merchants welcome you into the historic shops in the town center. Stop by the Cherokee County Historical Museum for exhibits and special events too.
