Once again, my wife was right! - Sonoma County Wine Country Lifestyle
I just got back from a wonderful trip visiting my wife's grandmother who turned 85! She lives in upstate NY in a nice quiet little town and she keeps herself busy golfing, bowling and knitting. What an amazing knitter! The time seemed to have passed by quiet slowly and gently because there was limited access to the internet and television. We spent the days visiting with family or reflecting on family history. To my surprise, it took me two days to decompress from my busy life back in California! I didn't realize how wound up I was until my wife asked me if I was ever going to take my eyes off my cell phone. LOL!
After several days of reading and eating... and eating... and eating, I noticed my breathing was slower and my eyes were getting less puffy. Each day became a new day of celebrating quiet moments. We would sit and watch the humming birds or lounge around and catch up on our reading. It was nice. I'm sure my blood pressure dropped at least 20 points.
By the end on the trip, I felt renewed and ready for the new challenges that faced me as a new sales manager for my office. Now, as I think about those lazy days in New York, I find myself grateful for my wife's amazing ability to be always right! Once again, she knew I needed a break and insisted I come with her to NY. And I of course, had a thousand excuses to stay home and they were all work related. Well, I'm glad she got through to my hard head and talked me into going, because I feel revived and energized!
So, I've made a personal goal and putting it out there: I'm going to take time off for myself everyday to enjoy a quite moment and I'm going to take more vacations!
In honor of labor day, I hope you also take some time off to reconnect with your family or friends and celebrate how lucky you are to be alive in this beautiful world.
I'm definitely going to!
