Breakfast for Neighbours

By
Real Estate Agent with ROYAL LEPAGE REAL ESTATE SERVICES LTD.

Hi folks,

Thought I woudl share an idea for meeting more neighbours.  I am distributing flyers to 370 homes in my immediate neighbourhood inviting everyone to breakfast in our backyard!  Here's the flyer.  I'll let you know the turnout and go ahead and imitate and/or share other ways you have met people in your community.

Cheers,

Hilary

Helping Connect Neighbours!

Dear Neighours,

As I have walked around our leafy neighbourhood and had chats with many people, I am struck by how friendly everyone is!   I also notice that most of us know very few people in the direct community, even those living a few doors down!

Our neighbourhood, like other mature communities in Oakville, is experiencing on-going transition.  While several original owners still live here, new families are moving in every day. Some neighbourhoods have community events that bring people together.  We would like to invite you to what we hope will be one of other gatherings that help us build a greater sense of community, right here where we live.

Event:                 Informal Backyard Breakfast Potluck

Date:                   Saturday July 7, 2007

Time:                   9:30 a.m. - 12 Noon

Where:                   ******

 Dress:                   Come as you are...

We will provide coffee, tea, juice, toaster, jam, butter, utensils, paper products, and name tags.  Please feel free to bring something to contribute to "the breakfast table".  If you don't have anything on hand to bring, come anyway, as there will likely be more than enough to go around.  Suggestions:  fresh fruit, bagels, muffins, danishes, croissants, coffee cake, granola, yoghurt, bread.  Please bring your own favourite coffee mug!

Sincerely,

Wayne and Hilary Shantz

Hmmm...making me hungry. Our neighborhood did something similar, except it was for neighborhood watch. We had a potluck. It was nice to meet the neighbors. -Charles

Hilary, that's a great idea and I love the flyer.  Getting to know neighbors is very important.  One thing, though- have I been spelling neighborhood and favorite wrong?  We're going to try something like this in the fall, when the mosquitoes are gone- thanks for the great post!

Hilary -- I like this idea -- it is really hard to get to know neighbors these days.  We have a new year's eve party in our neighborhood every year -- that way no one has to drive home -- we just have to get through the snow!

It is a great idea. Even if you are not in real estate , it is good to get to know your neighbors like in the good old days, when everyone knew their neighbors.

Hi Gita,
After designing the flyer, I ended up deciding to defer this breakfast till September.  Still want to do it and have been garnering interest in the neighbourhood over the summer, will post results and post mortem when we've pulled it off!  All the best, HILARY
