Bob Weir, best known for being a founding member of the Grateful Dead, celebrates his 62nd birthday today.
Weir, a singer, songwriter and musician, is, along with the Grateful Dead arguably one of the most recorded musicians on the planet!
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet Bobby on numerous occasions and each and every time he was most cordial. Whether it was backstage or poolside, whenever I saw him, Bobby always took the time with whoever came by, to talk, share a joke or sign an autograph.
If you’ve never seen Bob Weir in concert, tune in to this video and you’ll see why he’s not only a wonderful rhythm guitarist, but also a beautiful songwriter. Bobby was always credited with the “Rock n Roll” portion of Grateful Dead concerts. But songs like “Cassidy”, “Weather Report Suite” and “Looks Like Rain” showed his versatility in being able to pen some truly moving music in ballad form.
Currently Bob Weir is playing and touring with his solo band Ratdog.
By the way, if you click on the picture of Bobby, my daughter Laura and me, you can see a fun article CNN wrote...featuring yours truly!

You are a 'true fan' Craig. I loved reading the article and getting a little history as well. What a nice tribute to Bob Weir, I'm sure he'd appreciate the kind words!
Craig, I have to admit I'm a little blown away by all this. When you first meet or talk with people, you never really know what's hype or what's straignt talk. I have to admit you walk the walk. Great post. By the way I know it's only been a day...but checking the mail box for Mr. Hendrix!!!
Craig, Wanda called you a fan....Here, we call them "Dead Heads." People who love The Grateful Dead and go to as many concerts as they can! They were truly gifted and I hope Bob Weir has a wonderful birthday. (Btw, there are multiple 15 minutes of fame! :)
Toula - OK, for you one autograph. But no pictures!
Wanda - Thank you! Bobby knows where to find me...and he will. I've got his birthday present!
Lou - You see, my friend, this is why I love ActiveRain so much. I would have never guessed you attended a Ratdog show! Tie by day. Tie Dye by night. Who would have guessed?!!!
Nick - I walk the walk my friend. I have very strong ties with lots of bands. I'm a backstager! The Dead, Dylan, BB King, John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band
Hi Craig, and Happy Birthday Bob! When are we going to cut that cake, BTW?? I always knew you were famous Craig, but really, I had no idea HOW famous! Very cool post.
Craig, Play your cards right and you get multiples of those 15 minutes.........honest. Kids these days know nothing about GOOD music, unfortunately they missed it all!
Debi - A rock star wannabe really! But I do love my music!
Mary - Thank you Mary! Cake will be served today at 7.
Nick - Come on down my friend. We'll go see some live music here in the Raleigh area. You have my wish list now. Any and all efforts will be appreciated.
Laura - In an effort to speed up the lines of my autograph seekers, I'll be signing like this instead....
Carole - Although there is still some good music coming out these days, I'll stick with the music from our era anyday!
Dear Craig,
I would not be signing with a thumbprint, identity theft is gonna get the best of you. Great tribute to Bob's birthday! Its great to know being famous has not changed him. I still love their music!
;)
This is a really nice birthday tribute to your friend Bob Weir! I bet you have some stories you could tell about those Grateful Dead boys, being their number one fan and all!
Craig, love this post about Bob's b-day. I have seen the dead in concert many times and love them. I have 5 siblings and we used to go to concerts together. My brother named his first daughter Cassidy and his cat Sugaree. Happy Happy Birthday Bobby!!!! I look forward to more of your post!
Betina - Actually fame has changed Bobby. He once said in an interview that now he doesn't eat those pistachios that are hard to open!!!
Terrie - Oh, I have some stories! But backstage at a Dead show is a lot tamer than most would expect.
Kate - OK, I want to hang with you! You see Kate, this is what I love about ActiveRain. You just don't know about someone until you get to meet them here in the Rain.....And as Bobby would say, Looks like rain, feels like rain, here comes the rain..........
