A Shot Glass of Paint

By
Real Estate Agent with City of La Vergne, TN

I found this in my inbox (it's real):

The "ONLY SOBER PAINTERS IN TOWN"
Father and son painting team with over 25 years experience. Highly reliable and references available. Please contact ...

I nearly fell on the floor laughing when I read that.  Though (thankfully) this wasn't from a Realtor, it can serve as an example of the potential harm that we are capable of doing to each other.  Couldn't you just imagine? "You're using that drunk as your agent?"  MY GOODNESS!

When I meet with potential clients, I always ask if they're already working with another agent.  If they say yes and tell me who it is, I never ever say anything bad about them.  If I know they do good work, I will say that they've found a really good agent and extend my best wishes for lots of success.  If the agent has a reputation for being sloppy, I don't say anything, except I also wish them good luck for a successful home search.  My hope is that I'm being treated with the same professional courtesy by other agents.

And on a sidenote, I will never call a painter whose marketing technique is to accuse all other painters of being drunks. Good grief!

We should not trash each other because that gives us a bad name and gives the public a bad idea of Realtors. Good post, funny painters.

The thought was good..Maybe had he marketed it with something like relax with a drink on us while we give your home a new shot of paint.

I actually have found that there are a lot of painters who drink an awful lot - that's funny that these guys would use that as marketing.
