Unique Home, Is It a Hobbit?

By
Home Inspector with Helm Home Inspections

Went to a party Saturday evening at an old friends home.  He lives on the side of Blanchard Mountain in the most interesting home I think I've ever seen.  The pictures I am showing are only of the outdoors of the home.  The inside is every bit as interesting as the outside.  The builder is an old hippy who truly shows his roots in his work.

Unique home

As you can see, much of the home is done in materials that reflect the site.

east facade

boat

This pond is what you see out the front of the house.  There are several streams and numerous small waterfalls that flow from the house to the pond.

gazebo

This is a very relaxing gazebo at the end of the visible pond.  The property consist of about twenty acres, with another pond not visible from here, a ridge that drops down into a year round stream valley and numerous trails.  There is also an outdoor sleeping structure down by the stream where the owners spent their wedding night a few years ago.

I'm going to post this in historic homes group, not because it is a historic home, but because it is a one of a kind and may end up historic 100 years from now.

Thanks for looking.

He should submit his home to HGTV for their unique homes progam.  Love the green roof but he may want to consider getting the ivy off the front as it will ruin the stucco and cause all kinds of issues over the long run.

Very interesting home.  Kind of reminds me of a ship.  Definitely a good candidate for the HGTV show.

This is a great home. I feel like I could sit down under that gazebo and never leave. Great example of creating a home that blends with it's surroundings.

David that is one unique home! I bet the inside is just as funky. The land is just fabulous I can see just hanging out by the pond.

Ashley,  Yes the inside is very interesting, but not what I would call funky.  Artsy might be a better word.  The owner has been a friend for a long time so I got to spend quite a bit of time there during construction.  Quite a project.

Hi Michael, yes it is an awesome place.  I esecially like the trails down to the creek.

This is like a dream I had of a house I'd love to own. Posting as a historic home is a good idea!

Well it is truly unique in every fashion. I half expected it to be underground when you mentioned a Hobbit but I think it a little grand for a Hobbit. The pond is particularly nice and it looks as if you where in for an enjoyable evening. Lucky you had your camera.
