Franklin High School, in Franklin, MA contacted all high school families via their broadcast telephone and email system at the start of this weekend to alert parents to the higher than usual number of school absences.
Superintendent, Maureen Sabolinski and Principal, Peter Light reported that "due to reporting issues they have been unable to determine the exact number of influenza cases... and as of today, no patterns have been found among positive influenza cases." They went on to inform the public that the availability of flu vaccines is behind schedule and are awaiting word on when those vaccines will be available.
Once these vaccines become available, the Franklin Public Schools will offer a vaccination program run by the Department of Public Health and the Franklin Board of Health. These clinics will be held in the Field House during the after-school/evening hours with parents being needed to consent/accompany their children.
My own tenth grade son mentions noticing a large number of classmates out of school but it seems they have reported more stomach/intestinal-type illness without a fever rather than the expected flu-type symptoms.
