Today I went to Costco and this old man who looked about 65 or 70 came over to me out of nowhere and said "You know ,I eat bagels with lox and creme cheese every morning...... and I'm 88 years old!" I said "wow", thinking to myself he's not too worried about his diet and he's already reached 88! But his real accomplishment he goes on to tell me- "and I was at Auschwitz too- look, look at my arm- and he raises his sleeve to show me the long line of numbers imprinted in green on his skin. He continued to tell me about his family and and what a good life he had in spite of what had happened in Auschwitz. This stayed on my mind all day. I couldn't help but think if he could survive through Auschwitz those going through the job losses and foreclosures hopefully will have the strength to make it through as well............
Great story....My father in law escaped from a work camp during WWII ...when I was 19 and working in a 7-11 store an old fellow used to come in and by Ripple every night- said it made him sleep like a baby!
Not to steal the spotlight, because that's a wonderful story. I met a elderly guy last year who was 97, who looked like he was about 75. What was so amazing was how witty he was. Not all elderly folks are slow, or anything. The combination of good genes, and healthy living can work miracles.
I have talked to many who were in German camps during the war and they are inspiring to me.
Gregg- by any chance was that 97 year old man named Pasquale? Sounds like someone I know.....
Jeanna,Scott, Doug and Keller Wms. Realty- thanks for reading my blog. I only regret I didn't talk to him longer. Wondering how he got out, if he escaped or was liberated, but I guess that's part of the secret to his survival. He focused on the positive and the present, no looking back......
