What Grade Do You Give Yourself? Shooting For The Top

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Excellence A PlusIf you were to grade yourself in several areas of your life would you get an A+??

Professional skills, how you are doing with your relationships, your finances, your exercise, your personal development, on track with your goals? What grade?

In reality it irks me personally when I don't get that A+. We are truly in competition mainly in life with ourselves in most instances although everyone thinks they are competing with others. Not as often the case as you may think.

For example in taking a real estate exam someone says you need a 70 to pass. I want a 100 and when I get a 97, I want to know which questions I missed.

Excellence in all its forms in life is not hard to achieve if we do our best with what we are gifted with. In all areas of our life will we hit the high mark? Well, not at first. But we can be the BEST in all those different areas if we keep trying. We have to WANT IT!!! BAD. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. Don't confuse excellence with PERFECTION. Strive to be the best but don't become an obsessive person.

People will notice your excellence in whatever areas you achieve it in. Why? Because so many just settle for mediocrity. Or worse, sub-par or laziness in thinking and achievement.

So when you are hitting on all cylinders, what then? Cruise and brag to everyone how great you are? Absolutely not. First off, you will have to stay sharp and practice and continue to learn to stay in top form. But secondly, and more importantly being excellent allows you to be of great service to others. Imparting your knowledge, being strong with an assist to the weaker, a huge smile to the downtrodden, a bit of wise counsel to the forlorn. Always strive to be the very best YOU. It is what the world so very much needs to witness.

It was what you were designed to be.

I believe that in life you can only truly compete against yourself. As long as I strive to beat myself, I move forward...

Gary Doing your best is something we should all work at.  I see it as a work in progress as there is always something new to learn and improvements to be made; certainly no time or need to brag as other will clearly see how you are doing.

Hi Gary a very good message and one we should all take to heart. Seeking excellence is an agreement with your own mind that mediocrity is not an acceptable substitute. In any part of our lives.

Hey man, I always love your attitude and this post made me remember that I missed two questions on the State Broker exam many years ago. I am no perfectionist but try to do the very best I can in every situation! have a great weekend!

Gary,

As always your posts are thought provoking and this one compelled me to comment.

At a prior CRS Sell-a-bration in New Orleans ((I can't begin to remember how long ago that was) Dr. Wayne Dyer was our featured speaker and asked us to diagram our life. How much time we're spending one different aspects. It wasn't about grading, yet when you/we looked at that circle of life, it was an eye opener. That became my grade...good or bad, it was an eye opener for me. I still have that diagram, I've saved it as a life reminder.

Hi Gary - "I want a 100 and when I get a 97, I want to know which questions I missed" so fits how I look at things. There is always opportunity to improve and reflect on experiences and then make decison to improve!

Gary, I strive for the A+, but I'm a very tough grader.  And I doubt I'll ever give myself that mark.

I am a competitive soul.  In fact, I've literally tried to back off from being so competitive...

It has always been be the best or be unhappy about it.. I really don't want to live there because I cannot be the best at everything.   So there's been a change in my life.

There are things now that I want to do well at but if someone else does better, I'm not going to beat myself up for it.

Gary:  I gave a little of myself yesterday in an area where I am an A+.  Business and business planning.  I was helping an agent that needs immediate income and had never done a business plan.  We came up with some great ideas and if she works the plan, she'll be in good shape.  It's up to her from here.

Gary - I have all I can do to keep myself composed when I know I am doing a good job.  It's such a great feeling that sometimes you want to shout from rooftops and share with others and then suddenly it's at the same moment that my inner-self is telling me to be humble.

Hi Gary, I try not to give myself too high a mark.  Besides, by the time you take the test to get the score there's always another test out there.  You're right, our only competition is with ourselves.

As a whole, I'm going to give it a B because some parts are A+ while others are a struggling C. It's kinda ironic in order for me to get an A in "several" aspects of my life, I would have to do less of the A+ and get better at the Cs.

Thanks for putting this simple concept into a perspective I can digest.

You sure know how to hit my button because I want As in my report card.

Hi Gary,

A very good message as we should all strive for that A+. We are humans and will fall short sometimes but knowing what we did or didn't do can help us improve. With everyone at least trying their best it will be a better place for the next generation!

Gary - Striving for an A+ in everything is my natural inclination, but I'm learning to ease up on myself.  I don't have to be the best in every aspect of my life and since there aren't enough hours in the day to do so, I have to set priorities and decide that I'll get a D on gardening, C on house cleaning, etc.  I do need to step up my game on fitness.  I give myself a D and need to get to at least a B.  No marathon running here, so forget the A+.  Another thought provoking post.  Thanks.
