What is an avatar? I wondered that too, and I looked it up. According to Wikipedia, it is an internet users' representation of himself or herself. We have all kinds of them on AR, from tradtional photos to parts of faces to regular logos.
Meredith Hanson (my daughter) Kristal Kraft and Stefan Scholl have three of the different types. Kristal and Teresa Boardman are probably the best known for partial faces. The "meez" that so many of us did is also an avatar.
Those of us who sell real estate have been told for a long time that we should have photo on everything. Then the trend went to "slogos" which is a kind of logo with you in it. Now on AR and other websites and blogs we are posting to, our traditional photos look a bit old fashioned.
I read a post by Jennifer Steck a while ago asking about getting a new photo, and look at what she came up with as her "avy". then I found a second one on her profile. Perhaps she wants us to vote which one we like the best?
Where I come from, an AVY is short for Avalanche, and an avy dog is one that is trained in search and rescue to help find people in avalanches. But I am happy to use a new definition and see what interesting things people come up with. Perhaps I will have to try one for myself. That ski jacket photo is about 10 years old anyway!
