As a 22 year resident of the USA, I have come accustomed to a variety of Christmas movies that, for me, are synonymous with the Holiday season.
My number 1 favorite for many years has been "The Christmas Story".
Narrated by the main character (Ralphie), the plot relates to the holiday season when he was nine years old. It is set in the 1940's and all Ralphie wants for Christmas is an official Red Ryder BB gun. Whenever he tells anyone this is what he wants he is told, "You'll shoot your eye out."
Personally the funniest scene for me is when the little boy accepts a dare and licks the metal flag pole, only to find himself stuck.
TNT traditionally airs 24 hours of "The Christmas Story" beginning Christmas Eve.
This year, a very close second and through the eyes and wonderment of a three year old I have been introduced to "The Polar Express".
A charming seasonal movie with very creative animation and multiple parts played by Tom Hanks. For a little boy that loves trains and Christmas this was a winner.
This was an excellent reason for my son to be wearing his pajamas to bed recently!
I asked my English husband yesterday what Christmas movie did he always watch during the festive season. Without blinking an eye his response was "The Great Escape". Not a movie I would thing of at Christmas, but funnily enough this was the movie offering on BBC America on Christmas Day.
