New Year Resolutions & Strategic Planning

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams - Exton

Everyone I talk to is starting to think about their New Year's Resolutions.  I think this year I am going to try a different approach. I  already do strategic planning for my business at this time of year.  Now I think I'll do strategic planning for my personal life too.  I don't keep my resolutions because to be truthful they aren't particularly measurable and so I don't hold myself accountable.  I do however measure and monitor those business items that make it into my annual strategic plan.  If I apply that same concept to my personal life and write down measureable, concrete goals this might be the year that I'll look back on as the first year I kept my New Years Resolutions!

Hi Stoner, what kind of goals do you set for your strategic plan, I would be most interested and I think you are right we should all put as much effort into our personal lives as we do our business planning!  Happy New Year,  another NewBie, MaryBeth Muldowney

HI MaryBeth!  For the last few years I've based my strategic planning on the vision I have for our company.  Here's an example I have 5 "visions"  each with strategic initiatives that I build goals from - it may sound hokey but it works for me and my organization!

Vision - Build an organization that brings value to our community

Strategic Initiatives - improve client satisfaction throughout the sales proces; be a comprehensive source of "local" real estate information; focus on both real estate and building a solid community foundation;

Vision - Create a positive influence by having a motivated team of highly prepared agents who care about people and love what they do

Strategic Initiatives - empower agents to rediscover their passion for real estate and people; increase agent knowledge of local and national real estate trends; increase knowledge through appropriate designations

Not to get too long winded, I then try to measure each strategic initiative - for example how many new designations did I and/or my agents get this year, I also like client surveys to measure things for example how has client satisfaction improved this year, do they feel that I or the agent who worked with them was prepared and knowledgeable.  For the rediscovering passion initiative and community involvement I look at how agents got involved in something passionate and whether that brought any new relationships to the table.

 By planning how I'm going to measure at the beginning of the year I find I am more consistent in following the plan and achieving the goals.  Hope that helped!!
