"Maybe it's much too early in the game
Ooh, but I thought I'd ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year's
New Year's eve?"

Tonight is New Year's Eve and I always love to listen Ella Fitzgerald's version of Frank Loesser's song, "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" while getting ready for my New Years Eve festivitiesEveryone in town will be getting dressed up tonight and will be ringing in the New Year  2010 at the many venues in the city of Palm Springs.

New Year's Eve is the time to reflect on the past 365 days, whether it was good, bad, or indifferent to you.  2009 was a year that had a profound affect on everyone, and I am sure it will be a year many choose to forget.   It is now time to focus on hope, renewed optimism, and having a great time tonight!!

Once the New Year of 2010 has arrived, what is there to do in Palm Springs?

The Palm Springs International Film Festival tops the list of "Things to Do" in town for the month of January.

Celebrating its 21st anniversary, the Palm Springs International Film Festival was founded in 1990 by former Mayor Sonny Bono.  This year's Festival runs from January 5-18, and will include over 200 films from 60 countries.

This year's award honerees include Oscar winners Marion Cotillard, Quentin Tarentino, and Morgan Freeman.  Mariah Carey will receive an award for her performance in the independent film, Precious.

The Festival presents a majority of the films submitted for consideration in the Best Foreign Language category for the Academy Awards, as well as a large number of American independent and international features and documentaries marking their world, North American or U.S. debuts.

I've lived in Yucca Valley for 11 years and have always missed the film festival.  Talking to some that have been to it, it is definately an event not to miss, according to them.  I'm going to try to make it this year.

Jim,

The Palm Springs Film Festival is THE event here in Palm Springs.  Many of the films that play here are usually Oscar contenders.  If you have the opportunity, you must a least attend a few of the films.   Make it a great day and Happy New Year!!!
