Per the Columbus (Ohio) MLS, reported home sales in the market during October-December 2009 were 24.3% better than in 2008 (1,464 vs. 1,314).  The average sales price of $157,130 was up almost 5%.

The overall inventory of available homes also decreased, along with days on market.

Total sales came to $230,000,000.  The Columbus MLS covers 87 "Areas" and various counties, both urban and rural; for details, see:  http://columbusrealtors.com/news.aspx   http://columbusrealtors.com/News/mlsareastats.aspx

An interesting economic sidebar story is the very strong attendance for this year's AAA Vacation Expo last weekend.  Pre-event estimates ran from 13-15,000, and rough reckoning from those on hand would appear to support those numbers.  I volunteered at the Hocking Hills Tourism booth on Saturday, where business was certainly brisk and constant, especially for the hot-off-the-press 2010 HHTA Visitors Guide....someone from Ohio's tourism department came over to obtain more guides; she said they'd given away more through the first half of this year's event than they did through the entire weekend last year. (2009's attendance was estimated at 10,000.)

Also talked to a few folks interested in how the vacation home market looked, both in the Hocking Hills Region and Hide-A-Way Hills.
