Every morning I tell my kids the same thing: “Your goal is to make someone’s day today.” They roll their eyes because they’ve heard it so many times.
“It doesn’t have to be a big deal,” I tell them. “Just hold the door open, tell someone they look nice, encourage someone who’s having a tough time.”
I hope when they grow up they’ll remember it. It’s pretty easy to forget you have that power with you every day. In fact, you have tremendous power both ways. A negative remark made in a moment of frustration can wreck someone’s day… and the danger is this: It’s much more likely to happen.
Isn’t it amazing we forget to compliment, encourage, and help one another? In too many offices, the unspoken rule is “silence is praise.” No news is good news.
This is dead wrong.
Prosperity and positivity feed one another. Taking a moment to honestly improve someone’s day is a free way to build relationships, increase productivity, and lift your own spirits. The big challenge is remembering to use your “make someone’s day” powers.
