CoyoteCoyote: Canis latrans

A collie sized canid, around 20-25Lbs., males are larger than females. Color varies from completely gray to tan to a rust. Long pointed ears and a long narrow muzzle. Coyote habitat is usually open brush country, the females dig their dens on exposed hilltops or ridges with a view of surrounding area. Where persecuted the den may be in a more secluded location. This female has four young pups to take care of, she appeared too tired to even stand up. Pictures where taken 7-8-07.

Nice pics!  Here in the midwest Coyotes can be major problems, especially when they breed with domestic dogs.  It's amazing how adaptive they can be too!

Your coyotes look different than the pack that roams next door to me.  Ours are larger without so much brown in their color.  We like our coyote neighbors.

nice pictures! Out here in Southern California, coyotes run wild in the mountains. For the most part, they do not bother anybody.

Great pictures Jason!  I saw a coyote at Copper Mountain ski area, in the middle of winter running down a ski slope!  It is amazing how many there are out there.

Very nice pictures. We have them down here near Canon and Pueblo as well. I hit one with the car one night. The next morning I saw "what" I hit, I felt so bad.

Jason, I love the photos. I actually saw a coyote in central Denver this last week at about 5:30 in the morning. It was along Speer at about Downing. What a shock! Or...maybe I was sleep driving and just dreamt it.

Nice shots!  I've never actually seen a coyote outside of a zoo or wildlife exhibit... but... I do hear them... got to keep the cats inside....

Thanks for the comments. I feel fortunate to live in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I can stand on the deck of my house and see bear, bobcat, mountain lion, and herds of deer just to name some of Colorado's great wildlife.
