What was the first car you ever bought?

As my wonderful car's check engine light came on today I thought about what kind of car I should purchase asmy new work car. But then I started thinking about the first car I ever bought and drove, it was a 1969 Mustang that I bought my senior year of high school.

It was my pride and joy! I bought it, fixed it up, and the last part I needed to get it running came one day after graduation. THAT SUCKED!

What my first mustang looked like
This is what my first Mustang looked like

But, that summer sure was fun!

I don't care how embarrassing it maybe to you, but what was the first car you ever bought? I would also like to know what kind of car you presently drive and what you should suggest for my next work horse, or should I just fix this one up?

I also owned a 69 stang.  Mine was a gloss black Mach 1.  It had a souped up engine (headers, supercharger, etc.) and put out 450 HP at the tire.  That was a sweet ride.  I had to sell it to buy my house, but I intend to get another one someday.

Mine is kind of boring, but my first car was a brand new Datsun 310. I think it was 1981, It was a 5 speed and that is how I learned to drive a standard, If I wanted to drive my new car I had to learn how. The car I have now is also boring but a great car, it's a toyota rav4. Full time 4 wheel drive, which you absolutely need in northern Maine!!!

Jonathan - Must have been the 429 and I am a little jealous. Mine was the 351 W (Small block) Still enjoyed it though.

Lori - We all had to learn that dreaded stick sometime in our life and now I think that is why my neck still hurts every once in awhile or it could be one to many 80's rock concerts - lol

Charles- I did say no matter how embarrassed you were by your first car and driving a Camaro would be embarrassing! - ROFL (Actually that is a pretty nice car - the '69 was actually my favorite year for the Camaro also)

My first car was a 1964 Rambler Classic which was a gift when I graduated High School in 1968 (am I dating myself or what!)

Today I drive a 2006 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer and am loving it!

If I had my druthers and didn't have to schlepp around furniture and accessories, I would get one of these:

2007 Jaguar XK Convertible

WOW Another Datsun afficaindo...mine was a 1980, it was 2 toned, white AND rust, but it never gave me any problems and I never had to worry about anyone stealing it! Life was easier back then.

Val - The Rambler is awesome and what do you mean the Jag can't haul stuff, it is a convertible. Just stack it higher - LOL

Kimberly - You almost had to by me a new laptop, I almost spit out my coke when I read the two tone white and rust. - ROFL

I have to laugh at the Datsun thing my wifes first car was a 1974 Datsun 610 and it was ugly. She had it when we got married and pretty much the day we got married, I made her get rid of it and bought her a new car. I was embarresed by that thing. I think it came from the same paint factory as Kimberlys. (Except brown and rust) It also had a rag for a gas cap, speedometer worked well sometimes. Most of the time is said zero!

My Datsun was gold with a couple of pin stripes. LOL, I thought it was pretty cool at the time. It really was a good little car, I don't think you could kill those things, someone out there is probably still driving it. I,m just glad it's not me!!!

Taking the stress out of buying and selling.

Lori - Trust me, you can kill a Datsun!  Mine was a B210, ansd did you know that the parking brake between the driver and passanger's bucket seat is really a "big-wheel spin-out lever"?  That's right, on snow-covered streets of Iowa you can get a Datsun sideways up in someone's lawn prettly easily.  I ended up breaking the frame on it.  Right where the stearing connects to the frame, then proceeded to drive 30 miles to a U2 concert.  It's a wonder i'm alive!

Wow, I have been married 14 years and was spending my Friday evening watching the newest episode of Monk, but now my mind is accessing all those awesome memories of me and my Datsun. I am wearing MC Hammer pants, listening to Milli Vanilli, sporting some killer bangs and thinking I was all that in my two toned cruise mobile.

As Babs said....

Memories,   Like the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories  Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,  Of the smiles we left behind

Smiles we gave to one another  For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? could we?

Memories, may be beautiful and yet  Whats too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget    So its the laughter
We will remember    Whenever we remember...
The way we were...The way we were...

Can someone please pass the Kleenex????

I bought a 67 Plymouth in Califorina where i worked during the summers. I was so happy to have a car to take back to school in Baton Rouge. It did not have a/c but then neither did any of my high school classes, city buses, or my dorm room. It gets hot and humid here. Only to be young again. I was proud to take my car to the drive in movies, remember those.

OK....it was bad choice... a relic of the past... a real piece of junk....a 1973 Chevy Vega. No one remembers them... aluminum engine, cheap...ugly... why oh why??? Everyone so far had cool cars...except for th Rambler (sorry)....but I have no shame - I drove a Vega!

Kimberly - Never ever put Babs lyrics on my blogs again - lol

As an ex-dj, I could be banned from ever entering a radio station again if they find them to close to my name - ROFL.

Vicki (MAJOR IMPROVEMENT)

Gary - I do remember the Vega and the only car in history to come out in orange! I do feel a little sorry for you - lol

Eric - With a '67 car you were just COOL driving one, they didn't need A/C - lol

David - The Big Wheel Brake is an awesome idea! My dad was telling me about his push button transmission and they would rev up the engine and push the button and peel out. He said parent hated the car, because they said the transmissions always went out. Gee wonder why.
