Are you taking care of yourself as well as you take care of your clients?

With the first month of 2010 nearly over, and resolutions underway, thought it a good time to bring up the question about US - Taking Time for US - Taking Care of US - Considering US as one of our most important clients -- so that we can take care of others and stay healthy and happy in the process.

When I'm not working as a fulltime Realtor I do have a little "sideline,"  as a fitness instructor here in Asheville, NC.  So at this time of the year it's not unsual to see folks coming into the gym and taking their first steps to staying active, eating better and exercising.

I'm also a "Senior" (chronologically anyway!) who finds it very refreshing when twenty somethings say I kicked butt.

Helps the ego and all that, but I do know that without these times set aside to do something physical, with music, that I enjoy for me -- I wouldn't be as productive in my daily, hectic life as a Realtor.

Yet I see too many of my peers not setting time on their calendars for their most important client - themselves - when it comes to exercise.  It's not just for babes, buffed bods, or slim Jims.  It doesn't matter what we look like -- it's how it makes us feel and the energy it gives us to "keep on keeping on."

So if you're one of those who put everyone ahead of you, chew on this one.  Like they say in my part of the world "If Mamma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy".  YOU are your #1 Priority - and your health and staminar is central to all of it.  Don't neglect it.  Start today, whereever you are and Do Something Physical.  Better yet, get another co-worker to go with you.  For a walk, a run,  a booty shakin' cardio class.    Who knows?  Maybe I'll see you there!

Well, I'm not in Asheville, NC but I do agree that taking care of yourself is paramount.  As a registered nurse for many years before getting into real estate, I paid much more attention to myself. It does seem that boundaries for self are very difficult to establish when your schedule is always changing to accomodate clients and customers. I use to teach stress management and as I recall, the first thing to taking care of yourself is to put yourself in your calendar. I'll make that my goal for this week. Thanks for the reminder. Evelyn what a nice blog. I've been thinking lately that I even put my dogs before myself. Maybe this is a mom or a woman's issue. Either way, I know that I am among many women, who feel the same way.

I want to give my clients the best service, so I do a lot more than just staging homes. I'm a mom and a wife, so I want to spend time with my family. I volunteer, and now I'm getting into blogging and social networking. This has take more time away from my own needs. Last night, for example, I woke up at 4:30 in the morning, writing business emails.

The good thing is, I love what I do. I've to learn to schedule some "me" time for myself. I am not sure when was the last time I did that. I have lots of massage gift certificate collected over the years. Maybe it is time to cash them in one by one. ;-)

Thanks for your blog.

Hi Shirin - Thanks for the nice Props!  It's so hard as women, I think especially, to consider our needs and value them as much as others -- especially when you're a Mom.  (I am too but my sons are (hopefully) taking care of themselves.  And remember taking care of yourself means more than washing your hair or cleaning out your closet.  Take time for you!  See ya!

Hi Evelyn,

Good post! I normally try to go surfing at least once a week. But the last few months I haven't gone at all. And I can certainly tell a difference. It's easy to get sidetracked.
