County coucil member and mayoral candidate Dan McShane has proposed extending protection to the Lake Padden Watershed similar to that of Lake Whatcom and Lake Samish. Just wondering what folks thought about this. I have mixed feelings at the moment. On the one hand I am certainly into protecting our lakes. On the other Lake Padden is not as critical as Lake Whatcom which isproviding drinking water to the citizens of Bellingham. If we remove the land in the Lake Padden Wateshed from development, then that seems to me like we will be eliminating a lot of potential homesites in the Yew Street Road area which is slated for urban growth. If not here, where? We want to avoid sprawl in the county, and we are trying to reduce the amount of land available for development close to the city.
As this is just a proposal, I look forward to hearing more information to help me make a more informed decision. Any comments out there?
