In an ideal location midway between Boston and Worcester, the town of Ashland, MA is one of the premium residential suburbs in MetroWest Massachusetts.
Ashland was the original route of the Boston Marathon and still runs through downtown every year. The town of Ashland is considered part of the MetroWest which also consists of Natick, Holliston and Hopkinton.
A prominent citizen of the town was Henry E. Warren who in 1916 invented the first electric clock and founded Telechron which, in partnership with General Electric, manufactured electric clocks in town until 1979.
To honor this invention, Ashland High School sports teams proudly call themselves "The Clockers."
The two major routes running through the town Ashland MA are 135 and 126. Route 135 emanates from Framingham through Ashland and connects into Hopkinton. Route 126 provides easy access to the main highways of Route 9 and the Mass Pike leading into Boston for daily commuters.
For those who prefer to take the train, the Ashland MBTA station sits conveniently in the center of town offering a welcomed respite from commuter traffic jams.
Having begun its roots as in agriculture, the town grew to more of a residential suburb in the 1980s while still maintaining many lush wooded areas including Ashland State Forest and Ashland State Park. Before and during the boom, a number of communities were built in town including Orchard Estates, Ballard Hill Estates and Blossom Estates.
The town has a wonderful center with a number of well-known restaurants like Stone's Public House, Nick's Pizza and Mel's Sunnyside Café.
The new Ashland High School, which was built using state-of-the art green energy standards, was also recently rated number 46 in Boston Magazine's Best of Boston schools in the state.
The town of Ashland has the look and feel of a traditional New England town. And with customs like the annual Ashland Day fair, summer gatherings at the Tasty Treat as well as the miniature golf course, it maintains the feeling of a close-knit community.
