Improving clickthrough and conversion for Craigslist and Twitter links

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Results Internet

If you're tired of nondescript Bit.ly URLs for your Craigslist, Twitter, and email links, I have a new real estate URL shortener for you to test out.

If you're like me, you take a look at the URLs in a Craigslist ad or Twitter post before clicking on them. It's a trust issue, because we've all had our time wasted by clicking on obscure URLs that don't really give us an idea of what we're going to find on the other end.

While URL shorteners like Bit.ly have filled a nice big need, there is room to for a nice little niche URL shortener specifically for real estate listings to boost your clickthrough rates by giving your target audience...those elusive home buyers...a better idea of what they're clicking on.

Check out http://featuredlisting.org and leave comments here if you like it. It should significantly improve clickthrough and conversion rates for your listing links because users have a good idea what to expect on the other side.

How does this work?  We're always a little suspicious of an ad that wants us to click thu.

I totally understand...in fact, that hesitancy to click on something you don't trust is exactly why I created the tool. Bit.ly gives you no clue what a URL is about before you click on it because it's targeted to everyone...meaning it's targeted to no one. :-)

http://featuredlisting.org is exactly like Bit.ly, but with a domain that hints "real estate listing" to those who might otherwise be hesitant to click on the link. So if you have a long URL for your real estate listing you're promoting, like:

http://yourusername.idxcompany.com/idx/1234/detail.php?blah=0&blah=0&blah=0

Then you can shorten it to something more email/Craigslist/Twitter/human friendly, like this:

http://featuredlisting.org/123

This is to replate a bit.ly URL, which would give the end user no idea of what to expect on the other side. With this system, they have a reasonable assurance that it's going to be a real estate listing.

Make sense?

The best way to explain it is an example.

  1. Here's one of my client's featured listings straight out of the box: http://listings.sellidaho.com/idx/3724/details.php?idxID=082&listingID=98412733
  2. Here it is on bit.ly: http://bit.ly/9bXeOs
  3. Here it is on featuredlisting.org: http://featuredlisting.org/6

So the link is much shorter and more descriptive. And it's free. That always helps. :-)
