EB-5 IMMIGRANT INVESTOR PROGRAM.  I met with a client yesterday who is involved in the EB-5 Immigrant Investor program.  I can honestly say that although I had previously heard of this program before I have not really looked into it more closely.  I came away from my meeting with a desire to know a bit more about this program.

In a nutshell, the program can do the following for foreign investors:

  • Is available to immigrants who are seeking to enter the US that wish to invest in a commercial business that will help the economy.
  • The investment business will have to create 10 full-time jobs.
  • Can invest in a new business or a troubled business.

I encourage those of you who work with Investors to visit Us Immigration Department.  There is a wealth of information there.  Also, be aware that there are a lot of websites out there that appear to be "official" websites of the Immigration Department.  Proceed with caution.

As an agent, of course I would never advise counseling a client on this program.  I do feel however, that those of us who work with investors would be wise in educating ourselves with this program.  There are many foreign investors out there and there is a time limit on the program.

According to my client, the program is very difficult to participate in as you must have very good legal advice in order to proceed.  The advantages to the foreign investor are worth it though according to my client.  If these investors are able to help boost our economy, I think it is worth taking a deeper look.
