Life Lesson About Not Quitting Is In The Funny Pages

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

PogoThere is a great life lesson about the reality of not quitting. It actually comes from the comic strip Pogo.

People love to quit on things and then complain. It is just the easy way out. But it is a double edged sword when you think about it. OK, times get tough and we move on, totally natural right?

But there is a catch. Think about it. You can leave your career, move away to a new state, retire, get divorced, start some new business, hang out on the porch and drink beer, but with the game of life you really can't quit until your very last breath.

We can complain things are not fair. So what? Where does that take you? Nowhere. You just quit, move on, drop out, but here's the catch: YOU are still there. The OLD YOU has to take yourself to the NEW YOU, the new activity, the new spot. Coming from the comic strip character Pogo,

"Everywhere I go, there I am."

You are stuck with YOURSELF in life and you can't leave yourself behind and bring yourself to whatever NEW is.

Don't feel sorry, or stay frustrated, or feel too stressed or want to quit again, cause you are very much STILL in the game.

It isn't the outcome that matters but the fact with the ups and downs you are still PLAYING in the game.

DO THE BEST YOU CAN. Accept the losses and celebrate your victories. Above all, LIVE IN THE MOMENT. You can't quit. You really can't when you think about it.

Hi Gary,

I always tell everyone not to quit and fight, But i moved from Pennsylvania. There were reasons. It is true that market got worse. I was not getting business, but there were better things about Texas.

  • cost of living is cheap
  • my wife and son enjoy listening to indian music. ( i had to carry CD's, now they listen to Radio all the time)
  • i had to drive 90 minutes to find an indian restaurant in PA
  • cost of homes and lots are cheaper and better .

i did not quit what i was doing, i just moved to a better place, like when you move from a smaller house to a nicer and bigger house.

So true. Wherever you go; there you are. Life is tough. And that's not something that will ever change. Some people just handle it better than others.

Pointing at other things as the cause of failure leaves 4 fingers pointing back at you.

Sometimes a fresh start is truly needed.  But not if you're just running from yourself.

Sadly, I know a few people who have given up decades before they will take their last breath.  Happily, I'm not one of them, but being around them both frustrates and saddens me.  Great message, and great quote, Gary. -- Tanya in Montreal

Gary, so true. I know when I start to feel sorry for myself....I just think of others who are not as fortunate as  me.... I am healthy (now), food on my table and a roof over my head...how fortunate for me!!

Gary,

Great insight into the game of life.....I get sea-sick with all of the ups and downs though, and jumping out of the boat would only make matters worse.

Gary, failure just like quitting is not an option. We have to find the strength to be resilient. These obstacles put ahead of us is a test of our character. Overcoming them will make us realize our untapped potential that we may not know exists.

Omigosh ... I haven't seen POGO for years ... is it still in circulation? my paper doesn't carry it. I seem to recollect this strip had a number of "Pogo-isms". It would probably be a toss-up between Pogo and Peanuts for the nuggets of philosophy ingrained in the strips.  Yep... its not whether you trip or fall, its whether you stand back up, dust yourself off ... and go on.  Thanks for the Pogo infusion.
