Trying to control an addiction

By
Home Stager with Gomes Design

Well I started on AR a few months ago and it is an addicting place.  All the great info and riveting discussions.  I have been on everyday for a few (???) hours. Amazing how time flies by. All along struggeling to keep up with all the reading.  Haven't caught up yet.

Then I said to myself, I needed to curb this addiction by limiting my visits to once or twice a week.  Well there you go you miss too much when you are not on here everyday.  I would have enjoyed listenening to Debra Gould on CBC.  But missed the FYI that she was going to be on and all the other blogs and post that have been written.  Now I am really behind.

Does anyone ever get beyond the first page?

Hi Isabel, no I usually don't get beyond the first page, mainly because I check in everyday and most of the current blogs are on the first page.  Yes this place is addicting.  But its a good addiction!

I tend to try to limit myself to a half hr in the evening if I have the time. It can be tough though. I need to get some more stuff on localism . It really does boost my ratings big time.    Hey -There are worst addictions!

I log on first thing in the morning and read away.  I usually don't log back in during the day.  I found like you I was wasting valuable hours away that I could have been using to move my business forward.

Yeah, I'm starting to find I spend more time here when I could be doing other things.  I am only half way thru the new Harry Potter. (Normally, I'd be done by day 2) My desk is a mess and there's inventory all over the dining room again.  <sigh>

Isabel, I recommend subscribing to bloggers that you enjoy reading!  I always start there and then I come and see whats going on in the group!

My assistant and I are faced with the same dilemma.  We try to limit our AR time to one hour a day but it is so addictive!  I rationalize the time spent with the fact that we learn so much about the staging industry and what's going on.  I feel it time well spent.

Terry, I thought I was the only one that didn't get beyond the first page.  Thanks for letting me know.

Paul and Marci, I need to learn more about localism and bloggers.  Paul it must be very hard to stick to 1/2 hour.

Kimberely and Sharon I can empathize completely.  I think I am going to have to set up an office with no internet connection.

Juliette - lol.  You're one step ahead of me.  I haven't started reading it yet.  But I just picked it up.

Isabel - I agree you miss so much if you stay away for too long - I just had family staying for 3 weeks (!) and I did not have much spare time to read or comment. I am still catching up - so I have decided to visit each day but limit my time here - its a bit like a diet:)

Hi Isabel:

Thanks to you I am now addicted to the rain also. I find myself rushing home everyday just to check out the latest comment, or the latest blog, and it's all your fault for informing me about it. I  find myself reading blog after blog until i'm cross eyed, but I love it. I do try to limit my addiction to only a half hour. Okay, so I'm lying. I did receive my first contact with a client because of the rain. My god I was so high, my husband had to hold me down (haha). I am unfortunately still waiting for that client to contact me, but that's o.k because I'm just happy that something is finally happening. So thank you Isabel for creating a monster. I owe you one.

Stephanie, next time you'll have to tell your family they can only come for a few days (haha).  Did you go through separation anxiety during that time?

Sheryl.  That is too funny.  I think we all seem to experience the AR high.  It's great that you made a contact here.

Talk about and addiction I am up north in a trailer park (they have a wireless network) and here I am out outside standing with my laptop on the lid of the pick up catching up on the rain. I suppose I could walk down closer to the hub and get a better signal but this works for now.

I have been on for a month and I am on it 3-4 times a day! I look at it as Continuing Education, I have to justify it to myself in some way!
