Raytown, Mo Landlord Licensing at issue again!

Today Tim Truesdale, with the city of Raytown approached me at a Chamber meeting. Tim asked me to provide input to guide them in this process.

It is nice to know that the city is interested in our input. Raytowns plans differs from Kansas City in that the Hancock Amendment does not come into play in Raytown. The requirement to have the issue voted on would likely mean that it would require a vote of the alderman.

Unlike Kansas City this is not viewed as a source of revenue to prop up an indebted government.

Raytown has issues they would like to address in respect to property values and perception of the city. I have a great working relationship with the city and we can have input in the process. It is coming, the thing to do here is try to work with them to make it palatable. We will likely not be able to defeat it but we can affect it.

What I am encouraging is something akin to the Independence, MO plan of targeting properties that have continuing complaints or calls for service. There are many ideas afloat please contact me if you want to take part in this discussion.

What we do not want is annual inspection of every unit.

What you're doing is very influential.  We have a Landlord Association with members that manage and own property.  The town benefits greatly from our input.  Be encouraged.
