According to the Commerce Department, sales of new single-family homes dropped by 6.6 percent last month (and 22.3 percent compared to June 2006). That is more than triple what analysts had expected, and the median price was also down.

However, the South saw a new home sales increase of 7.6 percent - the only region in positive territory.

As the Bradenton Herald reports, at least one local builder, the Lee Wetherington Companies, had some good experiences this year. They already sold almost as many houses as in 2006.

Neal Community also reported an increase in sales throughout the last few months.

Experts say, that now is a good time to buy a new home. There are some great deals out there.
