An Oasis in Northridge

A duck Lupine along the Limekiln TrailThe development of the San Fernando Valley started taking off in the late 40's and never looked back.  So, last year when I started hiking with some friends in Limekiln Canyon in Northridge I was thrilled to find that there was this serene oasis right in my own backyard.  The trail that we take is just under 4 miles round trip and follows a stream that runs year round.  The Spring is the best because the wildflowers and the wildlife abound and entertain as you wind your way through the canyon.  There are several exercise stations for those that are looking for more than a casual stroll and picnic tables here and there if you just want to escape for a little bit and forget that you are smack dab in the middle of the city.  I look forward to my hike every day.  Check it out!  Park on Rinaldi Street halfway between Corbin Avenue and Tampa Avenue and head north down into the canyon.  It's a great place for walking the dog too! You're in the middle of Northridge!

This is my first attempt at putting photos on my blog entry.  As you can see I have failed miserably.  I couldn't get the pictures to line up to save my soul.  After almost 2 hours of futzing around and dealing with proxy errors.... What you see is what you get!  But hopefully you do "get the picture".  It's a great place to hike so if you're ever in my neck of the woods give it a shot.
