Austin Goes Batty for 'Night of the Bat'
This looks like so much fun I had to re-blog it being a native Texan! I love Austin!
Austin will be going batty at the "Night of the Bat" event scheduled for Sunday, June 6, 2010 at and around the Congress Bridge. Since Austin houses the largest urban bat colony in the world, Mayor Lee Leffingwell has announced that he would like to bring a resolution to adopt the Mexican free-tailed bat as the City's official animal at the next City Council meeting. He would also like to officially make the first Sunday of June the "Night of the Bat".
Adam West will be on hand for a special viewing of "Batman the Movie", the 1966 movie based on the 1960s TV show. The City of Austin hosted the original world-premiere of "Batman the Movie" back in July of 1966. So, it seems only fitting to have both Adam West and the movie here in Austin again to celebrate the City's very first "Night of the Bat" event.
The schedule of events for Austin's "Night of the Bat" include:
2:00pm - "Batman the Movie", Paramount Theater (713 Congress Avenue). Adam West will be in attendence. To purchase tickets, call 692-0530 or visit the Paramount Theater's website.
5:30pm - "Bat Run/Walk". Begins at the Buford Bell Tower (West Cesar Chavez St & Colorado St) in downtown Austin and concludes at the South First Street Bridge's Auditorium Shores parking lot.
