Last Sunday my family and I decided to take the dogs and the grand kids out for a little Easter Sunday outing, so we decided to go to Soledad Canyon. Soledad Canyon is a nice little spot just west of the Organ Mountains where a lot of people go to hike, mountain biking, horseback riding, or to simply soak-up some nature.
We parked at the Soledad Canyon Day Use Area and started our hike. About 200 yards in we reached a fork in the road, which forced us to choose whether or not we wanted to go left or right. We decided to go left, which seemed like a good choice since we made it to the waterfall within a couple of miles. Yes, a waterfall! It was absolutely beautiful to see one in Southern New Mexico that actually had a good amount of water coming from it—just stunning!
Well, we let the kids get a little wet (Why not, it was a warm day!), the dogs get their fill of fresh, cold water, and then we started heading back down the mountain. All together the hike was right around 4 miles on terrain that was pretty easy for all of us to do. There was one part that seemed a little steep, but we all managed to get over that section and keep trucking along. Another beautiful weekend in the Las Cruces area!
