Need some motivation? Ask yourself "Why?"

Why?

Feeling introspective?

The other day, I needed a bit of help from my broker and sought out her advice.  Not only did I get some great ideas from her on business in general, but I walked away with some solid questions that I needed answers to in order to continue my growth as a real estate agent.

The most valuable part of our conversation led me to a new post at AgentGenius, "Why? Finding real estate career motivation in down times.," and to looking for the answer.  I've done of a lot of thought on the subject and you'll definitely hear more in the coming weeks at AgentGenius, but I thought you might want to read it and give it all some thought.

I think some people mistook my post for a "I'm feeling down and need to figure out why in the world I would ever want to be a real estate agent, I must be crazy."  In reality, it was more about finding what it is that motivates me - something to use as a driving focal point for everything I do.  Having the answer would certainly help out on those days where I think I might be crazy for picking such a crazy career, but that wasn't the point.  I wanted the answer to fire me up and make me want to strive to be better, learn more, sell more, and be more successful.  The kind of motivation that burns within you and makes me say everyday will be an excellent day.  The mental exercise has been quite helpful recently and I'm finding out somethings about how I think that I didn't consider before.  Thanks to the question of "Why?" and I feeling more focused on my goals and I am building a much clearer path to them.

The big 'why' is a powerful tool.  Mine is a couple of guys that are under 4 1/2" tall.  I spent most of yesterday with them... because they were on spring break.  We had a 'Guy's Field Trip' to some cool places.

When I have to dig down for some traction, they are the solid surface I find under all of the crap...  They are why...

Hi Matt... figuring out what motivates and drives you is a critical success factor for long term happiness.  I recently confronted that question and have made a change to allow me to refocus myself in a direction where that motivation drives me.  It has made all the difference.

Matt - you'll get your MOJO back! And remember it's not always just the 'Why?' but what you do with the information that counts!

Having owned many businesses since I was 18 and every time being told it would never work. I find it a challenge that I can't wait to take on. Everyday in real estate I'm told I can't make it because of the economy, lending, whatever the reason, I can't make it. (So everyday my motivation is to prove them wrong, all the way to my retirement on a 200 acre farm in Montana)

I agree with Todd - I started my own business in real estate a couple of years ago and am proving that it can work --- everyone said it would not --- Good Luck to all!
