Browsing here and there through the innumerable blogs on ActiveRain gives me the same feeling as spending the afternoon at the public library. I know there is more content then I am immediately looking for, and I know where I am likely to find something of interest by one of my favorite authors. I was walking down these virtual halls today and I came across a post or two mentioning the slowing down of the housing market this year. I spent a moment thinking about how this natural ebb was effecting my life and business here in Asheville, North Carolina.
It is true that the market here is still really good but it is also true that the market is feeling the influence of the nation wide climate. One way that I have seen it manifest itself is that people have started thinking more long term about their investments here. Instead of just picking up and moving here in mass like the general exodus of the last several years, my clients are looking to take to the hills for land. It seems to me that a common client now is looking for a place that "speaks to them", a place that gives them an opportunity to build their dreams here in the mountains. At the same time this gives me a chance to get out into the woods with dreamers and idealists; people with ears for the land to speak to and eyes looking to the future, like Thoreau when he first cast his gaze on Walden Pond.
It makes sense, land has been appreciating here so quickly the last several years, it seems logical to get in now and ride the wave while the national housing market catches back up.
Again, I am so happy to make a living doing what I love.
