Let's Meet Up at Meetup.com

Services for Real Estate Pros with The Document Diva

globeThe variety of websites on the web just fascinates me. There seems to be a site for almost everything.

Recently I ran across Meetup.com which allows people who share the same interest or cause to meet locally face-to-face. We're often stuck behind our computer for such long periods of time that we forget there's a whole world out of there of people who share the same interests. So if you're interested in business, cooking, real estate, horses, or anything else that comes to mind there's probably a group out there or you can start one yourself. I know I'm excited and so is the press.

From the website:

Meetup Groups help people:

  • Find others who share their interests
  • Get involved locally
  • Learn, teach, and share things
  • Make friends and have fun
  • Rise up, stand up, unite, and make a difference
  • Be a part of something bigger — both locally and globally

We're proud to give more power to the people and we believe it's possible to make a profit and make a difference.

I'm on the look out for a solid professional networking group that I don't have to pay a million dollars to join so the great thing about this site is it features free & paid groups starting at a $1! You can't beat that.

Let me know what groups you join.

A great networking site (for business, not just for real-estate) is Linked-In.  It's almost a must have.  Check it out.  www.linkedin.com

Document Diva is very cool!  I will have to check out this site.  It is very difficult to participate in everything, but this looks interesting.  So does the new group.

Thanks, Marcus & Joan for the compliments. My business name has gotten me a few jobs because it stood out so much.

All of the many sites and boards can be a little overwhelming but I think the opportunity to meet in person is a good idea.

Thanks for sharing.. . .I will check it out. How different is it than other net-working sites out there? Can we advertise our listings on it? . .

Raj, it's not a net meeting website. These are face-to-face events. They have real estate groups also.

Thanks, Pamela. I love being the Document Diva. :)

And that's a great idea about using Meetup as a place to meet new people when they've moved to a new city. This is something I didn't even thing of.

It's a great organization! I organize a group myself which allows me to meet a lot of people outside of real estate industry. It's quite fun.

Cheers,

I always think that any kind of networking you can do is important, especially in larger towns. Try it out and give us an update.

I've been doing meetup for a while now.  Love it, love it, LOVE IT!  The idea for me is not so much the meetups that are officially for "networking", but groups that are about passions of mine that I share with the other members.  For example, I formed the Central Texas Food-Centrics - last Saturday we had a Moroccan Potluck where everyone brought a Moroccan dish - the month before we all cooked Thai together and someone's house.  It's a way of growing my SOI while at the same time having a ball.  And quite a few of these people turn out to be investors or just moved to town or will be moving.  There are also meetups about new urbanism and green homes and such that are a combination of personal and professional interest that I belong to.  I get to make new friends and, maybe, sometime down the road, help them out with their real estate needs.

Tricia, thanks for sharing your experience with Meetup.com. I haven't found a group that works with my schedule but it sounds like a lot of fun!
