Wickford Lumber and Hardware Co. - 434 Tower Hill Rd. North Kingstown RI 02852 is located right outside Wickford Village in the town of North Kingstown RI and it is the home town hardware & lumber store which has been family operated for more than 40 years. Originally Wickford Lumber and Hardware was a coal and oil company years ago. Now in this day and age of super stores it is rare to find the home town lumber and hardware store privately owned and thriving but Wickford Lumber and Hardware Co. is! Right now the two daughters in the family are the co-owners, Lucille & Carol, and they recently brought aboard a general manager who handles the day to day operations, Frank Jolly.
You walk into this store and there are employees right in front at the counter to help you out which is so nice and unusual. But before you may do the 'meet and greet' there is always a pit stop to the popcorn machine where you or your kids can get a nice free scoop of popcorn…and while you are busy yourself looking at the energy efficient light bulbs, deciding on cabinet hardware or choosing a wall color for a paint job, the kids can watch the train overhead that does it’s little toot around the store blowing smoke and making engine sounds! It’s just got a homey feel to it.
Wickford Lumber and Hardware Co. is a True Value affiliate which gives them buying power (they are also associated with Orgill). Every bit is important for the independent.
Mill work is a specialty for this company whether it’s for windows, kitchen cabinets or almost anything you want. In fact someone brought in a damaged tiller from a Wickford sailboat and had Bob, their woodworking expert, make a new one to replace the old- so anything can be milled to your specifications from this mill work shop.
Oh, I don’t want to forget one of my favorite parts of the business and that is the screen shop. Matt does an amazing job of solving screen problems fast and furiously for you. Especially for me since my cat is constantly taking a nose dive through my screens…they do have pet proof screens that I should be tried. Pricing is good and quality is even better so make sure you try them out for any screen issues you might have this year.
