For eight weeks, starting May 5th, the Northwest Film Institute will be hosting a lecture series with some great filmakers and Hollywood's finest at the Panhandle State Bank Auditorium.

An 8-part series of 3 hour, weekly lectures presented by film industry professionals -- all experts in their field.

The series is designed to provide the novice with a well rounded understanding of the complete filmmaking process and offer seasoned professionals some new tips, tricks and contacts with industry experts.

The lectures take place every Wednesday, beginning May 5th through June 23rd, from 6-9pm at the Panhandle State Bank Auditorium - 414 Church St, Sandpoint (second floor).

Enrollment is limited to the first 75 registrants per lecture. Sign up ala carte or save 15% by registering in advance for the entire series.

Entire series $300.00. Individual lectures $45.00 each. Additional 10% discount for NFI, KNIFVES and Sandpoint Films members. Tuition includes refreshments and all course materials. A limited number of scholarships are available.

An overview of the filmmaking process from the perspective of the major studios down to the guerilla independent filmmaker and web series creator.

Series Schedule (subject to change)

May 5 -- Filmmaking 101: Demystifying the art and craft of Modern Movie Making

Lecture by veteran Hollywood producer Ted Parvin, with a panel of experts.

May 12 -- Finding Your Story: Acquiring or creating a property to film.attorney, Ryan McNiece of Spokane based law office, McNiece Law Firm. Covers the legal issues encountered when procuring the rights to film an existing creative property whether it be a novel, short story, comic book or other. Each attendee will receive a comprehensive packet of legal forms and contracts for use in their own projects.

Part I - Acquisition: Lecture by former UC Fullerton Film Professor and independent filmmaker, Bill Brown, along with

Part II - Creating a story: Lecture by veteran Hollywood producer and screenwriter, Ted Parvin, along with screenwriter and UCLA professor, Paul Castro. Covers a variety of topics on how to find a great original story to tell on film as well as the basics of scriptwriting. Attendees will receive a number of helpful hand-outs and resources.

May 19 - Shooting & Editing: Presentation by Hollywood feature and documentary film editor and producer, Tony Miller. Tony has edited over thirty feature films in a career spanning over three decades. Also features top commercial DP, Jim Matlosz, whose client list includes Coca-cola, Budweiser, Direct TV and Expedia. Jim was also co-DP on "Who Killed the Electric Car."

May 26 - Post Production Essentials: Featuring Visual Effects Supervisor, Chris Ervin from Velocity Ape EFX. Chris has provided visual effects for over fifty feature films and will share the secrets to making low budget films look like blockbusters.

June 2 - Preproduction 101 & 102: Budgeting & Scheduling / Cast & Crew. Featuring Hollywood veteran Ted Parvin and a panel of surprise experts, including Barbara Price who apprenticed under Francis Ford Coppola on The Godfather and Apocalypse Now.

June 9 - Documentary & Special Interest Filmmaking: Featuring Academy award winning documentarian Erik Daarstad and award winning underwater/nature filmmaker, Carol Trusz.

June 16 - Lighting & Grip: Featuring Mark Watson and his new grip truck in a hands on lecture/workshop. A must attend if you don't know what a baby baby or a C47 is.

June 23 -- Distribution: From the BIG Studio deal down to delivery via the internet. Featuring a panel of industry experts including some surprise guests from major production companies.
