Going "Neutral" in Home Staging
In the home staging training classes at The Real Estate Home Staging School TM, based in Asheville, NC, we teach the difference between going neutral and going neutral correctly.
As homeowners and agents work to prepare the property, often walls are refreshed with a neutral paint. We teach our home staging students that neutralizing isn't that simple.
The whole purpose of neutralizing should be to create and enhance visual square footage. Square footage after all, is what the buyer desires. This merchandising concept is one among many taught at our school.
Paint color selection is not a singular choice. That decision integrates with other core merchandising skills and is dependent upon many things.
Our home staging students are taught, to take into account, the room itself, the amount of and exposures of the natural light in that room, whether you are bringing in the outside or minimizing the outside view. It is dependent upon the room size. It is dependent on the flooring. It is dependent upon the perception the home stager is trying to evoke, warmth in a large room, receding space in a small room. It is dependent upon visual flow needs to keep the eye moving to the focal point desired.
