Our dress code

Real Estate Agent with GA-agent.com

I've heard many stories about back in the old days how certain real estate companies required thier male agents to wear puke yellow jackets with dress slacks and a tie and female agents long dresses with heels.

My how things have changed!

Just surfing the network and looking at the various pictures of my fellow AR members I can see that we all shop at different department stores for our business attire. It seems that most of you mortgage folks still wear a suit and tie /formal wear to your job while the real estate folks have become far more casual.

-Does the way we dress reflect the way we do business?

-Are there more suit and tie agents or polo shirt and jeans agents?

-What does your business wardrobe consist of?

I've kinda started a little tradition for myself - any time I have a scheduled closing I'll wear a nice suit and tie. It feels appropriate...lots of money is being transacted at the closing table and the clients purchasing the property are making a sizeable investment...so why not look nice and feel proud?

What I wear can vary dramatically, depending on what kind of property I'm showing/looking to list.  In town, I'll wear nice pants, a nice top, and boots (after my second bout with plantar fasciitis, I decided that footwear was going to be what supported me best, fashion be damned!).  However, if it's rural property, chances are I'll be in jeans and a not-easily-destroyed shirt - and boots, because chances are I'm going to be wandering around the countryside through who-knows-what!

I have found that since becoming an agent I pay more attention to what I'm wearing for a quick trip to the grocery store - you never know when business might turn up!

I must admit, I am glad that I do not have to look at "puke yellow jackets".  It is giving me a headach just thinking about it.
