If you're like me and often gasp when you open your power bill, there's a really cool opportunity to do something about that! A $1 million dollar grant from the federal Department of Energy is being used in a program to do energy audits of homes and businesses, along with recommendations for projects to be done to reduce energy costs. The program is being administered by the Thurston Climate Action Team & Thurston Economic Development Council. If you are a resident or business owner in Thurston County & a Puget Sound Energy customer, this is for you!
There is a free public event this Wednesday (June 2nd) - show up at 6:30 PM at the Olympia School District Knox Administration Building (1113 Legion Way SE, Olympia). You can find out more about signing up for one of the energy audits by Thurston Energy, and about the many resources available in grants & rebates to help pay for any of the energy saving projects recommended for you in the audit. The detailed report you receive from the audit may well include a number of steps you can do yourself to save energy & $$, and Thurston Energy will also have a list of contractors available (this is the job stimulus part of the grant!).
