Bungalows are a common sight in many of Chicago’s outlying neighborhoods. Their distinctive design and characteristic details reflect a significant period of population growth and residential expansion in Chicago. Rows of classic 1½-story brick homes encompass entire communities, stretching in a collar outside the city center in what is known as the Bungalow Belt. Today, these residences are the pride and joy of private homeowners and architectural enthusiasts alike. And this summer, the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association (HCBA) is hosting a series of FREE seminars to help current owners learn more about restoring, updating and financing their special pieces of Chicago property.
