In compliance with the Clean Air Act, and agreements made in line with the Montreal Protocol, the U.S. has begun the phase-out of refrigerants, and further manufacturing of products that use refrigerants.
What does this mean for home-owners with HVAC systems in their home? Well, it means that while HVAC systems are no longer going to be manufactured, FREON may continue to be manufactured until 2020, and repair parts for FREON systems will be available until the stockpile of recycled parts and units are depleted.
Federal Law requires that all replacement HVAC systems be EPA compliant, and new systems purchased must uses R-410 refrigerant, which is MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE. Replacement parts for HVAC systems are likely to become more expensive, because of the good ol' supply and demand thing.
Most home-owners cannot afford to run out and buy a brand new A/C unit - but there is a solution, a Home Warranty! Most people only consider purchasing a Home Warranty when selling or purchasing a home. Home Warranties are for anyone, anytime.
Be pro-active, and offset any future expense of replacement parts, FREON charging or unit replacement. Purchase a Home Warranty. All of these things and more will be covered by the Home Warranty policy. You can protect your budget and save hundreds if not thousands of dollars from a single repair/replacement.
