The Unofficial Skate Park of Bristow-Gainesville, VA
I am not a graceful, athletic or coordinated person. So when my husband and I decided to dust off our inline skates and take up the activity again, we searched for a place where we could be away from traffic and hills. Prince William County Public Schools have lovely tracks. Unfortunately, they are posted as No Skating, Skateboarding, Etc. So we tried empty parking lots. We found the same signs posted in parking lots of churches, office buildings, shopping centers, etc. It got to the point that when we would approach a potential skating site, we would joke as we approached the inevitable sign, insisting that they all read, "Don't even THINK about skating here."
There is only one community in Bristow, VA that doesn't frown on public skating. That's Victory Lakes. They actually have their own skating area that is ready for inline hockey. What a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, we don't live in Victory Lakes. We live in Braemar.
Finally, we found a perfect location for skating right on the Bristow-Gainesville border. It's a temporary location because it is a half finished road that will eventually be the eastbound lanes of Rollins Ford Road coming from communities like Morris Farm, Glenkirk Estates, Linton Crest and the back side of Kingsbrooke. It is a stretch of the soon-to-be road that is a bit less than one mail in length. Since it's already been paved, it's the perfect surface for outdoor, inline skating. It's barricaded at the entrance of Linton Crest and where it connects to Linton Hall Road. Where you're there, you are very likely to run into young children biking, families walking dogs, adults jogging and the occasional skate boarder. You might even run into my husband and I skating, or some other inline skater that has discovered this area.
Eventually, the two lanes that currently serve as the one eastbound, and one westbound lane of Rollins Ford Road will be the two westbound lanes. However, that is at minimum a season of skating away, possibly longer. The remaining portion of the future eastbound Rollins Ford Road will more than double the already paved length of road and digging has not even begun. Most of the length of the road is still dirt and grass.
So for now, enjoy the unofficial skate park of Bristow-Gainesville, VA off of Rollins Ford Road in between Glenkirk Estates and Linton Crest.
