Initial Licensing

Initial Licensure under the current law,Chapter 468, Part XVI, Florida Statutes - Mold Assessors and Remediators
Mold remediators must have (a) 2 year degree in microbiology, engineering, architecture, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or a related field of science from an accredited institution and a minimum of one year of field experience, or (b) a high school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of documented field experience.

Initial Licensure proposed under Senate Bill 1330 and House Bill 713
The requirements for initial licensure under the department's proposed legislation are basically the same. However, there are certain differences that include:

  • The applicant may take the examination before applying for a license.
  • The degree must be an associate of arts degree or equivalent with 30 semester hours in specific courses.
  • The applicant must submit to a criminal background check
  • Mold related businesses will not be required to obtain a certificate of authorization from the department.
